Anandhu grew up in the southernmost part of India where he developed a passion for food. After high school, he moved to Toronto for college. He currently studies Commerce at Humber College.
In 2023, Anandhu joined Eataly as a Grocery Sales Associate. He is fully engaged with his position and has become a key member of the team, all while also managing his studies.
In addition to his responsibilities in Grocery, Anandhu often assists in the warehouse, as well as at the Front End. He is adept at ensuring the warehouse is well maintained and that everything on the floor is well organized for customers. Thanks to Anandhu’s dependability and contributions, our retail department at Eataly Sherway Gardens runs more smoothly.
What is your favorite memory of your time at Eataly so far?
“The first thing I think of is December of 2023. It was the first Christmas season after the shop-opening, and I didn’t know much about the products. For Christmas we introduced seasonal products like panettone. We sold a lot of panettones; vegan ones, and different-flavored ones. Once I filled a particular display with 40 packs, I would go to another display, and by the time I came back, it would already be sold out. This happened many times. I remember we had almost 400 pieces of the Eataly branded panettone. It was super fun to fill the display as each second the items would sell out.”
What advice do you have for a fellow Eatalian?
“My advice would be to stay as curious as possible and take every opportunity to learn. Ask questions about products, help out customers, lend a hand to your colleagues. In all these ways, Eataly is a really good place, especially if you’re passionate about service. There’s no need to be shy or nervous about talking to clients. Smiling is a cure for everything – so even if a client is very cold, smile and provide good service and then you’ll see that they won’t want to lose that experience.”
Who inspires you?
“My mother because she is one of the strongest people that I have ever seen in my life. My father died when I was 8 years old. She worked really hard and had a lot of jobs so she could raise my sister and me. She helped my sister earn an Engineering Degree and get married, and she helped us come to Canada. She did all of that alone, without any help, staying strong and single.”
What do you enjoy doing outside of Eataly?
“When I’m in India, I love to ride my bike to other places near my hometown. I also love riding cars, but in Canada I don’t have my license. I don’t get a lot of time for hobbies, but I still play badminton when I’m in Canada. Sometimes, I play mobile games as well.”
