Hector was born in Ecuador and moved to the United States in his early twenties. He quickly made a career for himself in the restaurant industry, working as a bartender and server on dinner boats in Chicago.
When Eataly Chicago opened in 2013, Hector started as Table Support. He then worked his way up to become a Runner and is now a Server. Hector shows exceptional adaptability and commitment to customer service, which has made him a big part of Eataly Chicago’s success.
Hector’s team knows him as extremely helpful and collaborative. He always comes to work in a good mood. His positivity, willingness to help, and eagerness to learn are appreciated by everyone around him – teammates and guests alike.
What is your favorite part of working at Eataly?
“I really, really love working here. People want to learn, and it is always a nice time.”
How have you been able to make an impact during your time here?
“When people ask something, I always try my hardest to help them. I always like talking to the new hires. I tell them that I started like them. I try to take them under my wing and help guide them. Sometimes I take them fishing, too.”
What have you learned during your time at Eataly so far?
“Everybody who comes to Eataly wants to have fun. They want to enjoy. If we don’t provide good service, they’re not going to come back so every day I give my best. I am always available to help my team. If people ask me to help to open a wine bottle, or even cut a fish, I will help.”
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
“I go out with my wife and have fun. We like to visit new places or go to the pool. My wife and I love the Riverwalk in Chicago. We also watch a lot of soccer. My favorite teams are Barcelona SC, from Ecuador, and Real Madrid.”
