Ivan B.

Ivan moved to Toronto from Nicaragua when he was ten years old. As a teenager, he began working in a grocery store before enrolling in college. After a while, he discovered that studying wasn’t his passion, inspiring him to continue working and eventually join Eataly.

In 2021, Ivan began his Eataly journey as a Grocery Sales Associate. Building a strong understanding of his department and demonstrating great reliability, Ivan steadily advanced to a Grocery Lead position and ultimately became Grocery Manager.

In his current position, Ivan oversees merchandising, ordering, hiring, interviewing, and leading the team. A patient trainer and role model for his team, Ivan leads with passion, positivity, and hard work.

What has been your favorite memory at Eataly so far?
“I have very fond memories of working with different teams at Christmas time, building bancos and pumping out panettones. It’s always a busy and special time of year. But the most recent event, the Friends-Only event, was really something else. To see our store transform from a beautiful grocery store into a full-out club experience was truly special!”

What is your favorite part of your job? 
“I love Merchandising! Building displays! It allows me to use my creativity and its satisfying to see the finished product at the end.”

Who inspires you?
“My dad. He’s very good at pushing me forward, giving me the best advice, and encouraging me to be the best I can be.”

What advice do you have for a fellow Eatalian?
“Team work goes a long way to getting things done. Work together, but don’t always worry about what everyone else is doing – instead put effort into your work, which will eventually pay off.”
