Eataly Favorite: Squid Ink Pasta

Jayson grew up in Sunset Park, Brooklyn with his close-knit Puerto Rican family. While working jobs in the hospitality industry, Jayson went to college for Information Systems.  In September 2017, he joined Eataly as an Inventory Control Associate.

Upon joining the team at Eataly Flatiron, Jayson worked hard to build relationships and master the ins and outs of his position. It didn’t take long for him to establish himself as highly knowledgeable and dependable in the area of Inventory Control.

Presently, Jayson’s influence is seen well beyond Flatiron. In addition to directly training new Inventory Control Associates in other locations, Jayson developed a resource guide that is provided to everyone on the East Coast beginning their work in Receiving. During the opening of Eataly SoHo, Jayson willingly trained managers and supported invoice receiving while seamlessly handling his responsibilities at Flatiron throughout the busiest time of the year.

Filled with a desire to learn and grow, Jayson has voluntarily taken on a number of side projects to support Financial Planning and Analysis, including a report tracking the cost increases of wine and liquor items which the Beverage Team uses to evaluate pricing.

Every day, Jayson positively contributes to Eataly’s culture through dedication to his role, unwavering commitment to teamwork, and genuine love of our restaurants and products. His fellow Eatalians especially appreciate the cheerful, uplifting energy that he brings to every situation and person that he encounters.

In your own words, what is the role of the Inventory Control Associate?
“I am in charge of all the invoicing. I check in with each department to collect invoices. Then, I make sure we are being charged correctly for everything that we purchased through price quotes from our Product Team. If discrepancies occurred during the time of delivery, I communicate with vendors to understand the best course of action. In addition, I also work to ensure that all orders are getting processed, making sure nothing is late.”

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
“I always wanted to be on TV! I think it’s still ingrained in my body to want to try and do some type of acting. Maybe it would be cool to do some voice acting every once in a while!”

What do you enjoy about working at Eataly?
“Many things! I would say my favorite part of my job is when I get the chance to visit other stores. I like seeing how they operate and how I can help. I also enjoy attending the outings that Eataly organizes for managers and team members. I love getting to connect with my team outside of work and have a great time together.”

What advice do you have for a new Eatalian team member?
“If you’re new to the Eataly journey, make sure to take advantage of everything we offer. There are pasta classes, pizza classes, events. Dabble in a little bit of everything. You never know what you’re going to find interesting and what could even blossom into a different career for you.”

During your time at Eataly, have you tried any new foods?
“I’ve tried oysters and caviar! I love oysters now. I’ve also become the default charcuterie board person amongst my friend group. Any time we meet up, they look to me to bring an Eataly charcuterie board.”

Outside of Eataly, what do you like to do?
“I just took up golf, and I surprisingly really enjoy it! I also love music and going to concerts. I am a big Blink 182 fan. Another thing I like to do is attend Comic-Con. I have been going for the last 10 years. I am yet to dress up for it, but I want to!”
