Maximo grew up in Santiago in the Dominican Republic. He went to university there and worked at a shipping company, where he earned a perfect attendance award. In 2014, Maximo moved to the U.S. and began working as a Housekeeping Associate at Eataly NYC Downtown in 2016. Demonstrating expertise and dependability throughout the years, he was promoted to Specialist and then to Lead in 2023.
A hard worker who is always willing to help others, Maximo has the sense of urgency and flexibility required for success in his department. He is proactive and knows how to properly mobilize his team, both for daily operations and when unexpected scenarios arise.
Since starting at Eataly, Maximo has grown in many ways and encouraged his team to do so as well. For example, he enrolled in English classes to improve his communication skills and is constantly looking to learn and be involved however possible. Maximo’s reliable contributions are fundamental to proper operations and a positive guest experience at Eataly NYC Downtown.
What has your journey at Eataly been like?
“I have always strived to meet expectations, never miss work, never be late. If there was an award for perfect attendance, I think I would win it every year. If my shift starts at 7:00, I arrive by 6:30 at the latest. I’ve focused on learning everything about my stations. The company recognized my efforts, and I was promoted to a Lead.”
What is your favorite part about your job?
“I like many things about my job, especially that I am constantly learning. I also like the financial stability my job provides. Eataly offers good benefits and makes sure we are all paid on time each week. They organize raffles and initiatives to recognize us. And lastly, the people who work here tend to be really good people. My current manager – who has been here for six years – is the most responsible and humane leader I’ve ever had. To me, it’s important to work in a place that values people.”
As a Housekeeping Lead, what are your daily responsibilities?
“When I come in, I check the work done by the overnight cleaning team, making sure all the kitchen drains, griddles, walls, and floors are clean. If something isn’t right, I report it to a manager. Then I assign tasks to our team and ensure all stations have what they need.”
How would you describe your team?
“I have a good team that strives to collaborate well and properly follow instructions. I arrange the schedule so each team member can learn at least three different functions and gain familiarity with our many different machines. I take time to understand people’s strengths to best assign them tasks. Overall, the team works well together, and there is mutual respect.”
What have you learned during your time at Eataly so far?
“I have learned about leadership and how to adapt to different people’s styles and needs. This knowledge is useful not just at work but also in personal life.”
What advice would you give to a fellow Eatalian?
“Adapt quickly. Learn and try everything you can. The more skills you acquire, the better off you will be in your job and for your future. Also, remember to respect others and earn respect through good manners and courtesy. These are the values I grew up with and maintain today.”
Outside of Eataly, what do you enjoy doing?
“I like to watch videos and learn interesting facts about animals, nature, and the world. I can name almost all the venomous snakes! On the weekends, I love cooking fish and enjoying it while listening to bachata music. In the summer, I like to go to the beach. I also visit Yankee Stadium twice a year.”
