Born in Montreal, Nate pursued culinary studies at university. In 2022, he joined the team at Eataly Toronto – Yorkville, initially at Trattoria’s To-Go Counter. His passion for food was evident, and he learned the ins and outs of the department, taking on the responsibility of training new team members.
After a year, Nate moved to cold kitchen where he quickly mastered all production and training tasks. He then learned hot side production and soon took over the preparation of family meal. Nate uses his creativity to save costs and minimize waste while simultaneously making the meal offering the most diverse and enjoyable as possible for his teammates. By the end of 2024, he was promoted to Lead Line Cook in the Central Kitchen.
Nate’s versality in the kitchen and knowledge allows him to regularly step in and help out wherever needed. From grilling, to grinding, to braising, Nate’s commitment to service sets the example for all his fellow Eatalians.
What have you learned during your time at Eataly so far?
“So many parts of my mind have improved from being here: from organization and planning to really creating a macro list in my head of what needs to get done and not losing track of the forest in the trees, so to speak. Being able to see individual tasks but then also having an idea of what we need to accomplish as the greater goal is definitely something I’ve learned here.”
What is your favorite part about your job?
“Staff meal, for sure. It’s really great to provide food for people and then get feedback from them. I’m in charge of feeding everybody here, keeping track of everybody’s allergies and making sure that everybody has a great lunch. I like to create an atmosphere where people are honest and tell me what’s going on. This way, I can really work on it and improve. It’s really rewarding and is also a creative outlet.”
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
“I enjoy using my mind. I love strategy games where you’re presented with problems and need to find a way to solve them. One of the games I play every Friday night with my friends is Magic: The Gathering. I also like going on long walks, exploring the city, and experimenting with food! We joke when we’re here about not cooking at home, but I’m of the opposite mind. I enjoy cooking at home as well!”
